Frequently asked questions
Pricing, accounts, offline use, share links, the free-tier ad slot, exports, and privacy — all in one place.
What is Hexink?
Hexink is a pen-first organic-chemistry sketchpad for the web and iPad. You draw molecules by stroke; the editor snaps atoms to a hexagonal grid, infers hydrogens and bond orders in real time, and exposes live properties (mass, formula, logP, TPSA) via an RDKit-backed API. Sketch two fragments and the reaction engine ranks likely products — see the feature tour for details.
What is the difference between the free tier and Pro?
The free tier covers drawing, properties, reaction prediction, sharing via short link, and SVG/PNG/SMILES export. Exports run through a short ad-supported celebration screen. Pro removes the ad slot, unlocks high-resolution PNG and PDF, gives you the cloud library across devices, and adds the reaction-figure composer.
Do I need an account to use Hexink?
No. Anonymous use is fully supported — your work lives in your browser via IndexedDB and you can still export and share via short link. An account unlocks the cloud library (drawings synced across devices), Pro entitlements, and the ability to come back to a share link as its owner.
Which devices does Hexink run on?
Hexink is a web app. It is tuned for iPad with Apple Pencil first, but works on any modern browser — desktop Chrome / Safari / Firefox, Android tablets, and Chromebooks. There is no separate native install; "Add to Home Screen" gives you a fullscreen PWA on iOS and Android.
Does it work offline?
Drawing works offline once the page has loaded. RDKit-backed computations (properties HUD, reaction prediction) need the API and will surface a "computing…" state until the connection returns. Saved drawings re-sync automatically when you come back online.
What export formats are supported?
Vector SVG, raster PNG (1× free, 2× high-DPI on Pro), copyable SMILES, and PDF on Pro. The reaction composer produces a combined SVG figure with the arrow, reagents, and product positioned ready for slides or a lab report.
Why is there a 15-second ad before the download?
The free tier is funded by a single Google AdSense slot embedded in the export celebration. The download is released the moment the slot finishes; Pro removes it entirely. We do not run third-party analytics, session replay, or any tracking beyond what AdSense itself does for ad serving — see the Privacy Policy for the full breakdown.
What data do you collect, and where is it stored?
Anonymous drawing never touches our servers beyond the chemistry API calls themselves. Account data, saved drawings, and share links live in an EU AWS region. We do not sell personal data and we do not train machine-learning models on your content. Full details, including the sub-processor list and your GDPR rights, are in the Privacy Policy.
Is there a shortcut cheat sheet?
Yes — see the shortcuts page. The same content is available inside the editor with Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+H or by tapping the "?" button in the toolbar.
Can I rely on Hexink for safety, regulatory, or medical decisions?
No. Hexink is an educational and creative tool. Computed properties come from RDKit and are accurate enough for learning and exploration, but the Service is not a medical device, not a regulatory submission tool, and not a substitute for professional chemistry, safety, or legal advice.
Do you offer team or institutional licences?
Yes. The Enterprise page covers school, university, and lab licensing — single sign-on, seat management, optional self-hosting of the API, and a contract with a real DPA. Write to hello@hexink.co to get started.
